Writing

At Brundall we love writing and aim is to develop children who see themselves as writers. We have created an approach to writing that enables children to learn how to write across a range of genres. Our curriculum is progressive and children build on their knowledge each year so that they are fluent and confident writers. We use a model text and story mapping to inspire our children. Oral rehearsal is seen as a vital part of our writing lessons. As a class we learn about the main features of a text type and create toolkits. The opportunity to practice writing in short burst will increase confidence and ensure children have success as writers.

Having a bank of sentences that children can use in their writing is very powerful and will support children into becoming confident writers. We have created a progression in sentence types which outlines some of these interesting and exciting sentences. Our Every Time Toolkit outlines the key skills and knowledge we aim every child to use automatically.
