We love music here at Brundall!
We express this in so many ways: each week we have a bespoke KS1 and KS2 singing assemblies – these often give some of our children the opportunity to perform to an audience and showcase their talents. Some children will chose to lead a section of the assembly – which we absolutely love. We have a number of musical clubs we offer which are currently ukelele and a singing lunchtime clubs. We also have a Glee Club who love to perform including in our assemblies. The children are taught music weekly in their classes by specialist music teachers.
We develop musicianship through four key areas: singing, listening, composing and performing. For example, in lessons we often ask children to lead a section in a vocal round or harmony to develop confidence and performance skills. In assemblies and class children learn a repertoire of songs which are revisited through the year and polished in terms of pitch, timing and dynamics (loud and quiet.) We learn composition skills using a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments plus we listen to and appraise a wide range of popular, world and classical music.
During the year children are given the opportunity to perform to a wider community at the Summer and Christmas Singalongs. These are wonderful, joyous celebrations and are enjoyed by our families. We look at showcase the instruments that we have learnt at these events.
As a school we have a peripatetic teacher who teaches individual and small group instrumental lessons. In July there is a performance which showcases the skills the children have learnt.
