British Values

Britain is a wonderfully diverse country, full of people and families with different histories, contexts and beliefs. It is important to acknowledge these differences in our country and our community and to celebrate the richness they bring. We work hard together to develop a tolerant, respectful, kind school community that understands the importance of taking this in to the wider world.

British values include:

  • democracy
  • the rule of law
  • individual liberty and mutual respect
  • tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

However, this is not a complete list! We believe we also must be tolerant and have understanding of many other aspects of people’s lives. Our RSE curriculum confirms the right of all protected characteristics (In law, these characteristics are: age, gender reassignment, being married or in a civil partnership, being pregnant or on maternity leave, disability, race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation)

In our school, our curriculum involves teaching about these values in a wide range of ways. We do this through assemblies, Circle Time, In the News, our humanities curriculum, Religious Education and Relationship and Sex Education. We also model these values through the way we work together in our school and the expectations we have around behaviour in school.
