At Brundall we believe studying geography is important; it allows children to make sense of the world around them piquing their curiosity in places, people and the environment. We will develop, within our pupils, a fascination, curiosity and appreciation of the world and its people that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Our Geography curriculum ensures we cover the skills and knowledge required to meet the aims of the national curriculum. More importantly, it has been designed to give the children in our school a broader, deeper understanding of the four areas of geography identified in the curriculum. It offers a range of opportunities for investigating places as well as physical and human processes. The units of work are intended to improve children’s geographical vocabulary, map skills and geographical knowledge whilst providing opportunities for consolidation, challenge and variety to ensure interest and progression. It will develop contextual knowledge of local and global locations and understanding of the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world, along with how they change over time. This curriculum seeks to encourage a sense of responsibility for the environment and to consider how changes to the environment have an impact on the Earth’s inhabitants. It is designed to ensure children leave KS2 with a passion for learning in this subject and ready to take on the Geography curriculum at secondary school.
